The first day of the year was pretty quiet in Paris, as everyone slept in and swept up after the big party the night before.
This manhole cover full of confetti looks almost like the rose windows on the cathedrals. For days after the main event, the streets were littered with champagne corks, broken bottles and confetti.
This view of the tower would be a pretty enough picture on its own, but the real reason we took it was the fireworks shells someone had
artfully propped on the base of the statue in the foreground.
