Museum pass PARIS, FRANCE - The smartest thing we did in Paris was buy the museum pass. You can buy them in 1, 3 or 5 day increments, and they save you money, lead you to try out museums you might otherwise have skipped, and, most importantly, let you bypass the line at most attractions and head straight in the door like a visiting dignitary. Even if you're not going to hit enough museums to make the card pay for itself, it's absolutely worth it for that last feature alone.

Musée de la Poste The card, which you buy in Metro stations or at the attractions themselves, gives you free admission to most of Paris' major attractions, including the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Arc d'Triomphe, and a whole bunch of places outside the city, like Versailles - the Eiffel Tower is about the only thing not included. We had the most fun, though, with all the not-so-major exhibits it gets you into. We decided immediately to try and hit as many of the places in the booklet that came with the card as possible, which led to visits to the Musée des Egouts de Paris (the sewer museum), the Musée des Plans-Reliefs (the museum of relief maps) and the Postal Museum, among others.

Of course, we also saw the Louvre, the Picasso Museum, the Bourdelle, the arms and armour museums at the Hôtel des Invalides, the Musée d'Orsay, the Rodin Museum, Sainte-Chapelle...By the end we were pretty museumed-out, but it was a fascinating range of art and culture.
