At Notre Dame PARIS, FRANCE - Paris was a test of my fear of heights - we trekked to the top of Notre Dame, the Arc d'Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. We decided to skip the trip to the top of the 200-foot ferris wheel in the Place de la Concorde. At left is one of the famous gargoyles from the rooftop of Notre Dame. You have to climb a winding spiral staircase to get there (no good for claustrophobes, either), but it's a great panoramic view of the city.

With the luxury of seven days in Paris, we were able to spend a couple of solid days at the Louvre, so we had a chance to explore the Egyptian and Assyrian antiquities and some other things we'd missed the last time.

At the Louvre In the courtyard of the Louvre, we asked a seven-year-old kid to take our picture in front of the fountains and I.M. Pei's glass pyramid. He did a better job than some of the adults we asked to snap our picture.
